The Forest Department carried out a search of the Cantonement area in the forest and the forest behind it in Meerut on Wednesday but to no avail as the animal could not be spotted. DFO Meerut Sushant Sharma while talking to ‘The Pioneer” said that the search was carried out with the help of the Army and the police but they could not trace the animal.
“The search for the animal was carried out in the Cantonement area because there were reports that the animal had been spotted in the area. We combed the entire Cantonement area and the forest behind it but we could find no pug marks” said Sharma. He said some persons had said that they had spotted the leopard but when enquiries were made they gave a totally different description. “There was one person who had said that he had seen the animal but when specific questions were asked he gave a totally different description from what could be described as a leopard” he added.
The DFO said that in the night they would again carry out a search of the spot where the lepard had been seen when it had created a havoc on Sunday. The leopard which made an entry into the Meerut city on Sunday and caused panic by entering an Army Hospital has been elusive since the time it moved from the hospital.
