The education minister was candid when he admitted in state assembly here on Tuesday that the education system in Uttar Pradesh was not up to the mark as teachers who take hefty salary do not justify with the money they get.

“I do not hesitate to say that education standard in Uttar Pradesh not up to the mark. I am not satisfied with the education we impart to the students in primary schools,” the basic education minister Ram Govind Chaudhry said.

The statement highlights the plight of minister who says teachers do not teach regularly. He even said that in some cases people draw salary from education department but work in Delhi and Mumbai.

“I seek support from each and every member of the state assembly to improve the teaching standard in the state,” he said and added that strict monitoring is needed for reviving the education system.

Recently in a survey carried out in primary school the students said Mahboob Ali is Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Ali is a noted mafia in eastern Uttar Pradesh

“I know teachers do not come to school regularly. If they come they do not teach the students. I am helpless with this system,” he said. “I am also planning to put bio-metric attendance system in schools to ensure teachers’ attendance,” he said.

He did not say how this system will run without electricity.

The minister replying to a couple of questions on the primary education and midday meal, said that very soon government would appoint over 72,000 TET passed youths as additional primary teachers. However BSP made a noisy walkout over the delay in appointing the TET teachers.

Over the Midday meal scheme in the state, the minister announced that midday meal schemes of Kanpur, Agra, lucknow and Kannuj would be handed over to international renowned Akshaypatra.

He said already 346 NGOs are engaged to provide fresh and nutritious food to the primary children in all the districts of the state.’’ We are strictly following the norms in the midday meal and no irregularities would be tolerated,’’ he said while adding that presently, the teachers in the primary school have no role in the preparation of the midday meal.

On a question of Peace Party member Dr Ayub to include the Madarsa in the midday meal scheme, Mr Choudhury said that the proposal is under consideration of the Central government.
