The book on Cancer Care- ‘Into the oblivion’ authored by Dr AP Maheswari and Mrs Vineeta Chandak, was presented to the President, Pranab Mukherjee, on Friday.

Maheshwari, a 1984 batch IPS officer who is presently on Central Deputation, elaborated that the book catalogues his mother’s battle with cancer and is an introspective tale, which challenges readers to reflect not only on death, but also on life, its meaning and the ultimate purpose of our human existence. The book highlights topics ranging from assistance from loved ones, guidelines for lifestyle management, survivorship and more. The book is written to assist patients and caregivers from the first day of diagnosis to the last day of treatment, he said.

``The book could serve as a guide for public at large telling about do’s and dont’s in the circumstances every family goes through such illness when someone near and dear suffers”, Quoted Dr MC Misra, Director AIIMS, New Delhi, while  elaborating on the book. He said that it brings about certain controversial aspects of healthcare delivery to the extent that physicians could guide by unethical practices while making decisions about newer medications.

The book is a medium to create awareness amongst its readers about the modalities of managing life in all its shades. It entails the do’s and the don’ts that needs to be followed when a family member is struck with the dreaded disease. The book is based on the true life experiences of author’s mother, a simple uneducated lady hailing from a remote village in Rajasthan. It is a tale of how she first adapts herself to city life and then sails into the hearts of not just her core family but all those who have the good fortune of coming in contact with her. She goes through life spreading smiles, cheer and good will amongst all and sundry. Her winsome qualities made her an ideal wife, and a mother who inculcated strong moral religious, familial and human values in her four children. The story is dotted with simple engaging real life anecdotes that depict how she spread happiness throughout life even after she was diagnosed as suffering with cancer. She beats physical challenges with mental strength and mental limitations with her faith in the divine.
