All eyes in State politics is now focussed on the coming budget session of the state legislature starting from June 19 when the opposition will once again get an opportunity to grill the ruling Samajwadi Party over law and order and power crisis issues.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav , who is also the state finance minister will present the UP’s budget for 2014-15 on June 20 in the state assembly. This will be the first time after the lok Sabha election in which all the political parties got a drubbing from the BJP. Assembly sources here on Saturday said that the budget session of the state assembly would be a brief one even though it is a budget session. However, the government is yet to announce whether it will continue the schemes like distribution of laptops and other sops for the youths and muslim girls. ‘Wait for the budget , if there is an allocation then the schemes are through but if there is no allocation then it is scrapped,’officials here said. There is a debate within the ruling Samajwadi Party over continuation of the laptop scheme after the lok Sabha election debacle.
UP minister Gyatri Prasad Prajapati had already announced that the laptop scheme would be shelved but the CM said it was the minister’s personal view.
Meanwhile opposition parties are gearing up for the assembly session when they will corner the government over rising incident of crime against women in the state and power crisis. Apprehension of draught like situation in wake of late arrival of monsoon in the state and lack of development works could be other issues to be raised by the opposition bench during the session.
