The state government gave an assurance in Vidhan Sabha that all efforts are being made to strength state’s education standard so that the people are not forced to go to public schools which are minting money from parents in form of high fees. State Primary education minister Ram Govind Choudhury said that efforts were on to curb the influence of public schools that have mushroomed even in rural areas. “If we get the support of public we can improve the education standard and thus force the public schools to close down their shops,’ he said.

He said that where there is no government primary school, government is giving subsidy of Rs 450 per student to the public school for admitting poor children in the school. Under this scheme 60 students were admitted in public schools in 2013-14 and in 2014-15 the number has gone up to 108.

The minister also announced that a committee has been set up to monitor the fee structure of the private schools. Suresh Khanna (BJP) and Dalbeer Singh (RlD) claimed that people want their children should study in public schools as the standard of the government school is very poor. They said teachers play truant and students are left at their mercy. The minister, however, shot down opposition proposal to install CCTV cameras or biometric attendance to keep a track on the teachers. “The proposal is very costly besides there is a problem of electricity in villages,” he said.

Cow slaughter: Government today denied rampant cow slaughter in the state saying number of cow has gone up. “ We have initiated action against people involved in cattle smuggling or cow slaughter. Now, government will not hesitate to lodge Gangster Act against the criminals,’ said state Animal Husbandary minister Raj Kishore Singh.

Replying to a question the minister said that as per 2007 census number of cattle was 190.97 lakh which has gone up to 205.66 lakh in 2012. He claimed that 3,655 FIRs against have been lodged against 8277 people in 2012 for cow smuggling and slaughtering while 5,012 cases against 11342 people were filed in 2013 and 4,400 FIRs were filed against 8206 people have been filed in 2014. “This shows Government is alive to this problem,” he said.
