In view of upswing in accidents on Agra-lucknow Expressway, the state government has decided to set up cameras and restrict entry of illegal trucks on highways with immediate effect.

A government spokesman said that majority of these accidents occurred because of over speeding. “To ensure that vehicles were driven at restricted speed, cameras will be set up at various locations to monitor speed,” he said.

“Another reason for accidents was entry of illegal trucks on highways which ply on the wrong side. The police has been asked to ensure vehicles follow traffic rules. Strict warning has been issued on entry of illegal trucks,” he said.

The spokeman said that toll plaza towards lucknow on the Agra Expressway will be made operational within 15 days.

There has been a spurt in accidents on Agra-lucknow Expressway in the last fortnight mostly due to rash driving, vehicles driving in wrong directions and the seasonal hazard of fog. Recently a trainee IIS officer died in one such accident.
