State government has issued a show cause notice to suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur vis a vis the gifts accepted from his close relatives.
Thakur’s wife Nutan Thakur claimed in lucknow on Saturday that her husband had informed the UP government under Rule 11(1) of the All India Services Conduct Rules on September 12, 2015, about Rs. 10.50 lakh gift he got between April 15 to September 10, 2015 from his father, mother, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle.
She said that now her husband has been served a show cause notice by Home Secretary, SK Raghuvanshi which says that it was not gift under Rule 11(1) but under Rule 11(2) of the Conduct Rules where he needed to take permission before accepting the gifts. Thakur has hence been asked to explain within 15 days why action should not be taken against him.
Nutan Thakur alleged that this points towards the desperation of Akhilesh Yadav government to somehow fix her husband.
Earlier, Thakur was suspended and an enquiry was initiated against him by Vigilance Establishment to scan his assets and other conducts violating service rules.
last week, the High Court on the plea of Thakur, had orderd that the probe be carried out by DG, Economic Offence Wing (EOW) instead of the Vigilance Establishment but the court order is yet to be complied with. Meanwhile, Nutan Thakur has also seriously objected to the state government reposing its faith on promoted police officers being appointed as DIGs of Ranges, terming it as an example of the government preferring submissive and subservient officers.
In a statement, Thakur said that there are 18 Police Ranges in UP of which direct IPS officers are posted in only 5 Ranges (Agra, Allahabad, Kanpur, Meerut and Varanasi). The rest of the 13 Police Ranges are manned by promoted officers, including important Ranges like Aligarh, Bareilly, Moradabad, Gorakhpur and lucknow.
She said that posting of promoted IPS officers in three fourth Police Ranges shows that the SP government is concerned with personal loyalty rather than performance, which is not a good augury for the state.
