State government has announced to hold a high level probe into the police and intelligence act during the Saharanpur violence on Saturday in which two people lost their lives and over 18 people including a DM and five policemen were injured.
The state government has also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs five lakh each to the family of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured. Indefinite curfew has been clamped in half a dozen police stations in the city while all the schools and colleges
have closed for next three days.
State minister Rajendra Singh Rana told reporters here on Saturday tonight that government has ordered probe on the failure of intelligence input about the violence and will investigate why the police did not act when the shops of a particular community were looted in front of them. However, the UP Minister was critical about the act of BJP MP Raghav lakhanpal, who was visiting the violence hit areas throughout the day and trying to instigate a particular community. He alleged that BJP was trying to add fuel in the present situation which is very unfortunate.
But on the other hand UP BJP president laxmikant Bajpai has held the state government solely responsible for the violence and indirectly named state mininter Mohammad Azam Khan hand in the clashes. Meanwhile out of the two bodies recovered during the violence, one is of a local trader Harish Kocchar while the other could not be identified.
