On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in the country, Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that his Government was planning to bring a legislation to protect the pension given to the people who were jailed during Emergency by the Samajwadi Party government.

“We are seriously considering to bring a legislation very soon to protect the facilities and rights given to the people who were jailed during the Emergency or loktrantrik Senani” he said during a function held here on Thursday to honour the sanskrit scholars.

The CM said that politicians and others fought the second battle of independence during the Emergency and no one can forget their contribution. “This pension and other facilities is just a small token for their big sacrifice,” he said.

There was a demand from the loktrantrik Senani to bring a law to protect their facilities of Rs 12000 monthly pension and other facilities even if this government voted out in 2017.

The loktrantrik Senani pension was launched by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in its previous regime between 2004 but was scrapped by the Mayawati government when it came to power in 2007.

The pension was again revived and was hiked to Rs 6000 per month in 2012 after SP again came to power and now it has been increased to Rs 12,000 per month. They are also entitled for other facilities like free ride in UPSRTC buses and free health facilities in state run buses. Over 5000 people are getting this facility in the state.
