With the arrest of two bootleggers from Mainpuri district on Sunday, the special task force claimed to have busted a gang involved in smuggling of liquor from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered 597 cartons of liquor of worth Rs 20 lakh, a truck, a car, two SUVs, a rifle, three live cartridges, 3 mobile sets and a cash of Rs 1390 from them

The miscreants, identified as Surendra Singh of Mainpuri and Rajendra Singh of Punjab, were escorting the truck laden with liquor. Three their aides identified as Ratnesh, Pankaj and Anil succeeded in escaping their arrest while leaving behind the SUVs. Both Surendra and Rajendra were caught when their car was successfully stopped by the police in Daulatpur locality (near Karhal road) of the area.

They owned that they were in the ‘job’ for as long time and were to deliver the liquor bottles to different shop owners in Mainpuri in wake of demand for the same on Holi. Police said the sale of that brand of liquor was prohibited for sale in UP and the miscreants were causing a loss of huge revenue.
