SP withdraws lal batti status from 36 state ministers

Biswajeet, PNS

Two days after Samajwadi Party had withdrawn lal batti status from 36 Minister of State rank leaders, party dissolved its state executive and other 15 cells but spared Akhilesh Yadav who will continue to be the state president.

In a communication party’s spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said that with the permission of Mulayam Singh Yadav the state executive of the party, barring State president Akhilesh Yadav, has been disbanded.

“The 15 cells associated with the party and their executive including presidents have been dissolved on the directions of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav,” Chaudhry who is also Jail Minister in Akhilesh Yadav Government said.

Chaudhury said that the new party state executive and its attached organisations would be revamped and constituted very soon.

The the party unit was forced to drastic steps after ignominious performance of the party in the just concluded lok sabha elections in which the party could win only 5 seats – all the winners were the members of the Yadav clan. Mulayam Singh won from Mainpuri and Azamgarh, Dimple Yadav from Kannauj, Dharmendra Yadav from Badaun and Akshay Yadav from Firozabad.

In 2009 lok Sabha elections the party had won 21 seats.

The performance was so bad that even ministers and the Speaker of the UP Vidhan Sabh lost their elections. Three of the ministers, including Abhishek Mishra, even lost their deposits. Even the top party leaders failed to win elections in their villages.

According to the Vidhan Sabha wise analysis Samajwadi Party won only in 42 assembly segments which indicate anti- SP wave in Uttar Pradesh.

“The party leadership is trying to fathom the damage lok Sabha has done to the party. Elections are like sport – sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. One should not feel disheartened by the result,” Chaudhry said adding Mulayam Singh Yadav is trying to boost the morale of the party workers.

Recently, Mulayam and Akhilesh had held meetings with defeated candidates and district presidents separately. After the meeting 36 leaders, having status of minister of state in the SP government, were sacked from the party on May 20.

The on-going rumblings have given the opposition an opportunity to question Samajwadi Party’s decisions. “The decision to disband party executive and cells seems bizarre because the party leadership has allowed Akhilesh Yadav to continue as state president. Why spare the head and take action against the pigmies,” asks BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak.
