Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav has on Wednesday reiterated that his party will have no alliance in the urban local body’s elections and party would contest the forthcoming elections on its election symbol bicycle.
“We will have no alliance with Congress or any other party and all the SP candidates will contest on bicycle symbol,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav who along with his family members reached Etawah on Wednesday for celebrating the festival of Diwali said the Samajwadi party will contest the local body elections on its symbol cycle. SP had contested the state assembly elections held in March this year in alliance with the Congress. Akhilesh Yadav went ahead with the coalition and conceded over 110 seats to the Congress despite the vehement protest by his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh Yadav however refused to make any comment on why he did not give any post to his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav in the national executive.”I don’t want to say anything on the matter,” he said.
The SP president said that he will speak to state sports minister Chetan Chauhan so that national level events are held at the international stadium and swimming pool in Saifai. Samajwadi party sources said that the local body elections are a different ball game as compared to the state assembly and parliament elections. Earlier this week the Congress general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad had also said that the grand old party will contest the local body polls in Uttar Pradesh on its own.
