SP targets Governor over Deoria issue

For the Samajwadi Party, the alleged rape in Deoria shelter home has come as an opportunity to target Governor Ram Naik.

Party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary said, “The UP Governor is conspicuous by his silence on the heinous crime in Deoria.”

“The silence of UP Governor Ram Naik over the Deoria incident is amazing as he had been repeatedly claiming marked improvement in the law and order in the state. The Deoria incident has shown that the statements of the Governor are of little significance for the state government,” Chowdhary said here on Monday.

The SP spokesman said the call for ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had proved to be an empty slogan as girls and women were the worst sufferers during the Bharatiya Janata Party rule.

He alleged that there was no let-up in crime against women ever since the BJP government came to office in Uttar Pradesh in March 2017.   He said due to insecurity, girls were either committing suicide or they had stopped going to schools and colleges and the state government had singularly failed in providing security to them.

The SP spokesman alleged that the Deoria incident had exposed the claims of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that the rule of law prevailed in the state.

He said the inquiry into the incident ordered by the Chief Minister was a mere eyewash as the District Magistrate of Deoria had found himself to be helpless in inspecting the shelter home where the girl inmate were victim of rape.

The youth organisations of the Samajwadi Party took out a candle march from KD Singh Babu Stadium to GPO park here on Monday. Several thousand Samajwadi Party workers and women participated in the march.

Meanwhile, senior Samajwadi Party leader and leader of opposition in UP Assembly Ram Govind Chowdhary will lead a protest demonstration in Deoria on Tuesday.

SP said deep resentment prevailed among the common man over the Deoria incident and it demanded stern action against the accused.
