After a long wait, ruling Samajwadi Party announced a lesser known name of Nasid Ahmed Khan as the party's candidate from Rampur lok Sabha seat.Presently, suspended SP's MP and Bollywood star Jaya Prada is representing Rampur in the lok Sabha. Party's general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav announced the name of Nasid Ahmed Khan as the official candidate of SP from Rampur here on Saturday.
Earlier SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav had said that the lok Sabha candidate for Rampur would be decided by Mohammad Azam Khan. SP has announced all the lok Sabha candidates in 80 seats of UP except for Rae Bareli and Amethi from where Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi would contest the polls. Meanwhile it has been reported that Jaya Prada could be given ticket by Congress from Moradabad seat in UP while Noor Banu’s son would contest from Rampur.
Meanwhile Congress and its ally Rashtriya lok Dal (RlD) are engaged in a tug of war over Bulandshahr constituency for the upcoming lok Sabha elections. Bulandshahr, which has around 17.1 lakh voters, and is a reserved for Scheduled Castes, will go to polls on April 10. Ajit Singh-led RlD has claimed the right to contest the seat arguing that there were 3.2 lakh Jat voters in the region. Congress, on the other hand, has claimed the seat saying two other reserved seats in western Uttar Pradesh, Nagina and
Hathras have been left for RlD. "There is no justification for leaving Bulandshahr for RlD," Congress spokesman Sheopal Singh claimed. The tug of war between the two has delayed the announcement of candidates from the alliance even as the date for filing of nomination for the election is fast approaching. Congress claimed to have given 8 seats to RlD. Except BSP, other major parties are yet to name their contestants for the seat. The Samajwadi Party which won the seat in 2009 elections has changed its nominee thrice, while BJP, Congress, AAP are yet to announce its nominees.
