Close on heels of a controversy over a Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson making objectionable remarks on Prophet Mohammed, a case was registered against Samajwadi Party MLC Lal Bihari Yadav for making objectionable remarks against Lord Shiva, at Kanth police station of Moradabad.

Yadav was booked under sections 153A and 153B of the Indian Penal Code.

The case was registered after Bajrang Dal workers complained about the SP leader's objectionable remarks against 'shivling' and Lord Shiva in a video.

While filing the complaint, Bajrang Dal leaders alleged that the sentiments of Hindus were hurt by Yadav.

This comes amid the ongoing Gyanvapi dispute where the Hindu side claimed that a 'shivling' was discovered within the premises of the mosque during the survey ordered by a Varanasi court.

In a similar incident, BJP leader Nupur Sharma was suspended from the party for six years for making a controversial remark against Prophet Mohammed during a TV show.

Meanwhile in Sitapur, a Muslim gram pradhan and two others were booked for putting up tiles with pictures of a deity in a toilet in Barra Berora village. Two of the accused were arrested, while gram pradhan Reshma was absconding. The tiles fitted in the toilets have pictures of a deity and other religious symbols.

Bajrang Dal worker Sandeep Awasthi had complained about this to the police. In the FIR, the complainant alleged that since gram pradhan Reshma belongs to the Muslim community, she intentionally hurt Hindu sentiments and her husband Buniyaad and Nasimulla were also involved in the act.

In view of the tension in the area, additional police force was deployed in the village.

The district magistrate and superintendent of police of Sitapur said that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and action would be taken against the accused accordingly.
