Amidst the apprehensions of an early election of the lok Sabha, the Samajwadi Party has convened the national executive meeting here in lucknow on July 28.

The highest decision making body of the party is likely to authorise party president Akhilesh Yadav to take decision on the pre-poll alliance with the BSP and other secular parties to take on the BJP.

However the big question in this national executive meeting to be held at the state party headquarters whether the party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and his younger brother and MlA Shivpal Singh Yadav will attend the meeting. Both were ousted from the committee before the 10th meeting of the national executive held at Agra in October 2017.

Though party sources here on Monday hinted that Mulayam and Shivpal could be accommodated in the national executive this time as the differences within the family have been ironed out. The SP secretary general Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday had informed all the party office bearers, national executive members and special invite members to attend the eleventh national executive at the state party office on July 28.

The 2019 lok Sabha elections would be the main agenda of the national executive which include authorising the national president to go for alliance and selection of candidates.  At present there are 55 members in the national executive of the SP.  During the last national executive, the term of the national president was increased from three to five years.

After the Agra national executive meet, the names of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Yadav were missing from the list of 55 member national executive headed by Akhilesh Yadav. The list had triggered speculation in political circles as to whether the SP patriarch will remain the party patron. The SP spokesman Rajendra chowdhary had then denied the existence of any such position in the party. He had said the party constitution does not have any provision for such a post.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was made the party patron after a bitter feud in the Yadav clan climaxed with his son Akhilesh Yadav snatching the mantle of the party president from him at an emergency national convention on January 1 in 2017.
