Attacking Samajwadi Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the party which had shun the principles of Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan was now talking about the poor and the downtrodden while in power it only harassed them.

“Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav says that the BJP government is corrupt. But the fact is when he was Chief Minister, his government usurped public money amounting to Rs 98,000 crore. Now, he is now levelling false charges against the BJP because the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to expose the previous regimes,” BJP spokesman Harish Chandra Srivastava said.

In a written statement issued here on Friday, Srivastava said that the BJP governments, both at the Centre and in the state, were very popular among the people as both had implemented pro-people policies.

“The poor are getting houses, LPG connections, power connections and LED lights. These have transformed the lives of the people,” he said.

“With the opposition finding no excuse to criticise the government, the SP has started spreading canards against the Yogi government.  Akhilesh Yadav talks about deteriorating law and order but the situation has only improved during BJP regime, and this is reflected in the interest shown by investors in UP,” the BJP spokesman said.

Srivastava said that Akhilesh spoke about pollution in the river Ganga but he should first tell people why his government gave patronage to tanneries which were discharging untreated effluent directly into the river during 2012-17 .

“The people are aware of the lies that opposition leaders, including Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, are spreading against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. People will teach them a lesson in the coming Lok Sabha election,” Srivastava said.
