The Samajwadi Party might have criticized Mayawati for constructing her own statue, party’s general secretary and Urban Development minister Md Azam Khan has proposed a temple of party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, if the leader permits. Khan’s announcement came on the heels of reports of construction of Modi temple at Kothariya village in Rajkot, Gujarat.
In a written statement issued here on Thursday Khan said that he wishes to construct a grand temple for Mulayam Singh Yadav. I will put the proposal before ‘ Netaji’ (Mulayam Singh Yadav). If he agrees a grand temple would be constructed in UP, he said.
“Neta Ji is a popular leader and has a long following. He also deserves a temple on his name. Several living political leaders and actors have temples on their names. If they can have temples why cannot Netaji have one,” asks Azam Khan.
However Prime Minister Narendra Modi was furious over construction of temple on his name and commented through his twitter: “‘This is shocking and against India’s great traditions. Building such temples is not what our culture teaches us.’ Reports claim that Rajkot administration has removed the Modi’s idol from a temple in village Kothariya.
Interesting Samajwadi Party is, on principle, against the mandir or statue politics. The party has criticized Mayawati for constructing her own statue in lucknow at Government’s money.
