SP Central Parliamentary Board meeting to be held today

PNS

The much awaited meeting of the Central Parliamentary Board of the ruling Samajwadi Party here on Sunday is likely to decide on elevating the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav as the national working president of the party.

The last meeting of the board was held in June, which had decided to annul the decision of merge of the Quami Ekta Dal with the Samajwadi party.

SP Chief MUlayam Singh Yadav will preside over the meeting.

SP sources said the parliamentary board is likely to adopt a resolution authorising the SP supremo   for taking important decisions about the party organisation. —thus paving the way for the   chief minister to have effective control on the party affairs, particularly the distribution of tickets for the next state assembly elections.

Akhilesh Yadav was the state president of the party and was replaced by his uncle Shivpal Yadav as the new president in September.

There is no official word about the agenda of the meeting except the letter issued by the state SP president Shivpal Yadav informing the members about the date and venue of the meeting.   A senior SP leader said the ``board would adopt two resolutions one political and the other economic’’.

``The  SP will oppose the decision of the Narendra Modi government’s decision to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1, 1000 currency notes causing untold miseries to the common people particularly to the farmers and workers from the unorganised sector of the economy who deal only in cash’’, said the SP leader. The SP will also raise this issue in both the houses of the parliament in the ensuing winter session from November 16.

“There would be also a political resolution, where the Board members will authorise party president Mulayam Singh Yadav to take any decision in connection with the organisational setup. In this decision it is expected that Akhilesh could be made the working national president of the party," said the SP leader.

Several other issues are also likely to be discussed during the meeting –like the fate of the fate of the expelled leaders Ram Gopal Yadav and other expelled leaders of the party.  SP is yet to decide about its new leader in the Rajya Sabha. In the records of the Rajya Sabha, Ram Gopal Yadav is not only the MP of the Samajwadi party but also the leader of the party until the new leader is decided by the party. The board is also likely to discuss whether to go for pre poll alliance with other parties or not.

SP sources said `` its intriguing that the circular for the meeting of the central parliamentary board was issued by the state SP president Shivpal Yadav, which was never done in the past.

The parliamentary board will also approve the merger of mafia don Mukhtar An sari’s Quami Ekta Dal (QED) .

SP vice-president and Rajya Sabha MP Kironmoy Nanda, also the member of the Board said that he would be attending the meeting on Sunday.

The parliamentary board is meeting after a two month long family dispute between chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav which led to expulsion of   dismissal of the four ministers from the cabinet including Shivpal after Mulayam expelled Ram Gopal Yadav and several other youth leaders who were the supporters of Akhilesh Yadav.
