The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged sexual harassment charges against former Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand, on Saturday visited the hostel rooms of the law college as well as residence of the Godman in Shahjahanpur in search of evidences.

Sources said that the SIT team, besides visiting room number 102 of the law college hostel allotted to the victim, also went to the adjacent rooms to make enquiries and search evidence.

The SIT teams, which divided into two groups, later visited the residence of Swami Chinmayanand and had a close look both inside and outside the house. Later, the team visited the SS Law College to gather some lead which could help them unearth the truth about the allegations made by the victim.

Earlier, soon after reaching Shahjahanpur on Friday to probe sex harassment charges against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Swami Chinmayanand, Inspector General Naveen Arora, who is heading the SIT, disclosed to the media that the team would look into the details of the probe conducted by the local police so far before re-examining the whole matter.

He said his team had seen the papers related to the extortion case filed by Swami Chinmayanand’s counsel and also the one filed by the girl’s father.

“We have included legal and surveillance experts in the team and, if required, a forensic expert will also be called,” Arora said.

The SIT was formed on Tuesday, a day after the Supreme Court directed the state government to investigate the woman’s allegations.

A student at a college run by Swami Chinmayanand’s trust, had been missing since August 24, a day after she posted a video on social media, accusing the senior leader of harassing and threatening to kill her.

Her father had filed a complaint with the police, accusing 72-year-old Swami Chinmayanand of sexually harassing his daughter, a charge refuted by the former Union minister, who claimed it was a “conspiracy” to blackmail him.

The apex court had taken suo motu cognisance of the case and said the girl, who was found in Rajasthan last Friday, would continue to stay in Delhi till September 12.
