The Uttar Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party got a shot in its arm when senior leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party joined the ruling party on Sunday, reposing faith in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union minister and party in-charge of UP affairs, JP Nadda, was present on this occasion.
Among those who joined the BJP included minister of state-ranked leader Sanjay Sharma from Aligarh, Chandra Prakash Mishra (Varanasi), Sarvesh Shukla (Kanpur), Vir Vikram Shukla (Gonda), zonal head of Bhaichara Committee Shobhit Mishra and around 75 heads of different committees of the BSP.
Incidentally, all the leaders who joined the BJP are Brahmin by caste.
“The joining of these leaders shows the groundswell of support for the BJP. These leaders have reposed faith in Modi because the benefits of the government schemes have started reaching the people,” Nadda said.
He added that other parties did not have a leader of the calibre of Modi or his vision.
Nadda said the BJP had democratic principles. He pointed out that late Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the country’s prime minister but none of his family members were in politics and the same was true with Narendra Modi.
“Despite being a Prime Minister, his (Modi’s) family members are not in politics whereas in other parties, dynastic politics rules the roost,” Nadda said.
“The way the BJP is getting support across the country, we will win over 300 seats and the BJP will form the next government,” he said.
Law Minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, Brajesh Pathak, was also present at this function.
