The Uttar Pradesh government has released Rs 283 crore for disbursement among the farmers who suffered damages to standing crops due to unseasonal rains in early October.

This will benefit over eight lakh farmers in the state.

After further assessment of the damaged crop, the government has pegged the crop loss in the state at Rs 2.82 lakh crore. The government said it was working in the interest of 8.27 lakh farmers and the compensation had been released to the respective district collectors who would distribute it among farmers online.

On Wednesday, the state government had released an installment of Rs 74.52 crore to be distributed as relief to over 2.08 lakh farmers in 44 districts affected by flood. The government had already released two installments, -- of Rs 160 crore for about 4.77 farmers and Rs. 48.20 crore for 1.39 lakh farmers -- identified after survey in the last week of October.

The farmers' crops have been badly damaged due to torrential rains and heavy floods in September and early October. The compensation amount will be transferred to the bank accounts of farmers through DBT from the district treasury. In wake of the natural calamities, the government is providing financial assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
