RLD UP chief quits post

State president of the UP unit of Rashtriya Lok Dal, Dr Masood Ahmad, has resigned from his post. He sent a letter in this regard to RLD’s national president Jayant Chaudhary on Saturday.

In the letter, Masood Ahmad said the norms on eligibility for patry ticket were compromised and the issues of Dalit and minorities were not highlighted in the election while the leaders of alliance were not deployed as campaigners.

Masood Ahmad said he joined the RLD in 2015-16 after being inspired by late leader Chaudhary Charan Singh who always fought for farmers, poor and downtrodden people while the later leader stressed on the unity between Jats and Muslims.

“I was elevated to the post of state president of the party in 2016-17 by Chaudhary Ajit Singh. I always worked hard for the party but my words were ignored when the party needed them the most,” he said.

In the seven-page letter, Masood Ahmad asked some questions from Jayant Chaudhary. These questions included why the tickets were given for money, why the seats were not declared in time, why the RLD and other allies were not given any weight by the big partner in the alliance, why the big leaders remained silent on Dalit and Muslim issues and why the SP leaders were given RLD tickets to contest the election.

He said he led the RLD delegation which met chief ministerial candidate of SP-RLD alliance Akhilesh Yadav on January 12, 2022. “Akhilesh refused to talk to the alliance partners on seat sharing issue in an insulting and straightforward way. I briefed this to Jayant Chaudhary and asked him to contest election all alone while leaving the onus to decide on the same on Jayant Chaudhary,” he said.

When asked, national convener of Team RLD, Anupam Mishra said the party had already dissolved all the frontal organisations and state unit of the party for a revamp and a meeting for restructuring of the same had been fixed on March 21. “If Masood Ahmad had any grievance he should have raised the issue earlier or he should have waited till March 21,” Mishra said.

He said Masood Ahmad was asking for a ticket in the assembly election 2022 but was denied by the party leadership. “This irked him and he is now playing the victim card while leveling allegations on the party. He may have plans for his political future in some other party,” Mishra opined.
