Issuing a threat to the Union Government senior RlD leader Jayant Chaudhry said that his party will launch a mass agitation if the government tempers with the existing land acquisition law and also declared that RlD will launch a membership drive.
“RlD has always been a strong supporter of farmers’ interest and will continue to do so in the future too. WE are no longer in government so no body is raising problems of the farmers,’ said national general secretary of the party here on Wednesday.
Chaudhary said the party will strengthen the organisation and will start an online membership scheme. He was speaking to the newsmen at the party office in Hazratganj.
He did not spare the present Modi government in the centre saying the present NDA government was making much propaganda about Barack Obama’s nod to visit India. “The NDA government seemed amused with this as it treat it an achievement. The real achievement, however, would be when the government does needful to safeguard the interest of the farmers,’ he said.
Parrying the queries about much hyped Chaudhary Charan Singh memorial issue, Chaudhry said the party wished to have a place in the name of late leader as hundreds of his followers still had good bonding with him. When pointed out, the RlD is said to be power-hunger and had allegiance with different government at different time, the general secretary said the party had representation in 2002 and 2012 only. “Allegiance had become a second nature in the present day politics and there were several other parties which formed government with their allies.
The basic theme is that RlD fights for the right of farmers and common men. It will continue to do so and will never compromise on the issue,’ he said. About a question of weak frontal organisation, Chaudhry said he admitted that some of the frontal organisation needed an overhauling and proper mobilization.
He said both issues of farmers was conspicuously absent from the agenda of both the governments (in state and in centre). “We will discuss with out workers and will plan to contest at all the assembly seats. We will broaden out reach to central UP, East UP and Bundelkhand besides strengthening out base in West UP,’ he said.
On this occasion, 29 leaders of different political parties including former minister in BSP government and general secretary of Samajwadi Party Mazdoor Sabha, Shayam Narayan Singh, Samjwadi Party leader Sanjay Singh, state general secretary of Rastriya Janta Dal, Pramod Kumar Yadav advocate, chief Aam Admi Party, Jalaun, Chakki lal Yagik joined the membership of RlD.
