Demanding better cane price a delegation of Rashtriya lok Dal met Governor B.l. Joshi and handed over a memorandum saying the Samajwadi Party has failed to make private mills clear their last year’s cane dues. The RlD leaders also demanded cheap electricity for the farmers.
The delegation led by party’s state president Munna Singh Chauhan said that despite High Court directive of January 30 asking state government to clear cane dues over Rs 1000 crore was pending with the private millers. "This due is of last year while this session mills are yet to clear Rs 5000 crore. The farmers are facing financial problem. The situation is so bad that in many regions farmers have committed suicide," Chauhan said in his memorandum.
The RlD leaders also raised the issue of potato farmers and demanded cheap electricity for them. The fog and mist has hit potato production badly. Government should extend financial help to these farmers, they said. The other members of delegation were Anil Dubey, Rakesh Singh, Hazi Wasom Haider, Ambuk Singh Patel and A.S. Tiwari.
