Rashtriya Lok Dal, on Wednesday, demanded Bharat Ratna for former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, sparking a debate on a long forgotten issue.
Team RLD national convener Anupam Mishra said the government should honour Chaudhary Charan Singh with Bharat Ratna.
The RLD raked up the issue on the eve of the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, on December 22, on Wednesday.
Mishra alleged that the Central government was anti-farmer.
“What is the reason behind delaying Bharat Ratna to the messiah of farmer, Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was the voice of more than 70 per cent of the population’ who always protected and promoted the interests of farmers and took many far-reaching decisions to secure the future of the farmers despite his shortest tenure as prime minister,” he said.
“Not giving Bharat Ratna to such a great personality shows the anti-farmer mentality of the Bharatiya Janata Party government,” Mishra said.
