Re-employment not possible who attained age of 65

There is a bad news for the government employees who have been working on ad hoc basis after superannuation and have attained the age of 65. An order has been issued saying that employees who have attained 65 years of age will not be re-employed.

This Government order was issued almost a fortnight back. No reason has been cited for this order but a senior official said that modernization and lack of efficiency are twin reasons for government opting for this decision.

In majority of the government departments including home, information and publicity, agriculture, finance and industries retired employees have been hired on ad hoc basis on annual basis. The employees who were good at work and had good knowledge of the department were re-employed. This was done with the consent of the Head of Department.

The government does not have exact figure as how many employees would be affected by this order. “The re-employment of retired employees is very common. A rough estimate says that thousands of employees are working on ad hoc basis after their superannuation and this number is increasing,” he said.

The order has not put a ban on re-employment of the employees. It says that those persons who have attained the age of 65 would not be re-employed.

“The world has changed a lot. It is computer era. The oldies are not that comfortable with digital work. These employees look towards young generation for help all the time. Besides, the government is paying them a hefty honorarium. This order will help the state to save precious money,” the official said.

Secondly, the official said, these employees are not that alert any more. The efficiency of a person comes down with age and at 65 years one cannot expect a many to work with alacrity. “The government has therefore decided to give rest to those ad hoc employees who attain the age of 65,” he said.
