Advocating the necessity of a Governor in the states, Governor Ram Naik admitted to have learnt a lot from the recent controversy and Supreme Court ruling on Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh in which imposition of Presidents Rule was revoked by the Apex court.
"In a federal structure, the state government as well as the Governor has different roles to play under Constitutional norms. I try to balance myself strictly following the Constitution in a transparent manner," asserted Naik adding that the post of governor is very 'useful' as it serves as a bridge between the state government and Centre by safeguarding the Constitution.
Maintaining that the demand for abolishing the Governor's post is merely political, Naik said that the issue of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh has given a lesson to learn.
"I don't think I have done anything except for working as per Constitutional norms, even though some political parties charge me for their own benefit," he stated while refuting charges that some of his acts were politically motivated.
Naik was talking to reporters in lucknow after releasing a 96- page booklet 'Rajbhawan me Ram Naik 2015-16', on the completion of his two-year tenure as Governor.
He also condemned the statement made by sacked BJP leader Daya Shanker Singh." We don't expect such derogatory language in the society and that too against a woman and it should be condemned," he stated.
However, making a critical remark on cabinet minister Mohammad Azam Khan, who had recently said that he was afraid of going to Raj Bhawan, the Governor claimed that if the minister is really so afraid then he should have sought more security from the Chief Minister.
"If he sees threats in other parts of the country other than UP that he should have apprised me and I would have spoken to the Union Home minister and request him to provide more security to Khan across the country," Naik stated.
The Governor also mentioned about his complaint to the CM on the derogatory statement made against him by Azam Khan in the UP Assembly.
When his attention was drawn to the recent death of more than 50 people in a hooch tragedy in Etah, Naik said that he would sent his report to the Centre like he did in other matters.
"I have earlier sent reports on Mathura violence, Kairana exodus and Dadri incident to the President and the Centre. As and hwen I feel necessary, I will apprise the President and the Centre about the failure of the state government in safeguarding constitutional rights of every citizen.
When asked about his activeness as Governor of UP, Naik said that he was always active during his public life for the past 37 year and worked for the people.
"It could be an impression that earlier Governors of UP were bureaucrats, hence they were less active. But as a politician, I have opened the Raj Bhawan for the common people. Yoga gives him energy to run entire day." he said
In his booklet, the Governor has detailed his two-year tenure which included people who methim and the places he visited. Besides he has thrown light on letters sent to the Centre and the CM and political and non-political activities of Raj Bhawan. Thanking his staff and others for helping him to perform his duties during these years, Naik said that he was always eager to take any complaint or suggestion from anyone in the interest of the society.
