Taking up the fight of agitating villagers in Ambedkar Nagar by UP Congress president Raj Babbar bore fruit within 24-hours as the local administration instructed concerned departments to fulfill their demands on Monday morning.

The residents of Dhoda village of Tanda tehsil have been protesting non-payment of compensation for the demolition of their establishments / houses and were joined by Babbar who sat on a dharna in the village to press for clearance of the compensation.

Chairman of UP Congress Media Cell Satyadev Tripathi said that the administration of Ambedkarnagar not only assured of compensation in accordance to new law and as per rates revised in 2017 but also provision of alternative houses to all displaced traders.

Tripathi said that after getting written assurance, Babbar called off the agitation and returned to lucknow. Tripathi said that the Congress will continue to raise the voice of farmers and would fight to get all issue resolved.

On Sunday, Raj Babbar joined the agitators in Ambedkarnagar and questioned the district administration about demolition of houses and huts built near the road. A video went viral where he was seen asking an SDM whether the administration had served notice to the people to which the locals were heard saying an emphatic ‘no’.

“I will stay back and protest till the demands of people were met,” Babbar said in Dhoda village where he held a chaupal on Sunday morning.

Initially, the police did not allow the state Congress president to enter the district and detained him on the border. But later Babbar was taken to Dhoda village in Tanda tehsil.  The DM and SP interacted with the Congress chief but he refused to budge and sat on dharna. Several hundred villagers too joined him in the dharna. Babbar told reporters that it was illegal to demolish houses without giving adequate compensation to villagers.
