Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is all set to take out a `padyatra’ in his former parliamentary constituency, Amethi, on Saturday and highlight the rising prices and target the Bharatiya Janata Party ruling at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh over its inability to curb galloping inflation across the country.

The 'Pratigya Padyatra' campaign, which will also be attended by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will be organised from Jagdishpur in Amethi to Harimau in Sultanpur. The party has exhorted people to participate in the campaign to sensitise the government about hardships being faced by them due to rising inflation.

A Congress spokesman said that the people were suffering due to the policies of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath government in the state.

“The Congress has been agitating all over the country against inflation. This 'padyatra' under the slogan of 'BJP Bhagao, Mehengai Hatao', will start from Jagdishpur at 10 am. At the end of the yatra, there will be a huge public meeting which will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other senior leaders of the party,” he said.

Besides the `padyatra’, Priyanka, who announced that 40 per cent of party tickets would be given to women candidates and rolled out a separate manifesto for women, would also hold 'Shakti Samvad' to be organised in Rae Bareli on December 19. This 'Shakti Samvad', which will start at 11 am at Reform Club grounds near Rae Bareli district hospital, is expected to be attended by 5,000 women. Priyanka is expected to discuss in detail Congress women's manifesto at the event.
