Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that the UPA Government wanted to give power to the power but the NDA wants to empower only Prime Minister’s hands.

“Prime Minister has a different style of functioning. He works like a autocrat and wants to have complete power in his hands. He believes he can rule sitting from Delhi and supervise the work sitting in Delhi,” Gandhi said in a function organized to mark 10th anniversary of Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital in Munshiganj area in Amethi on Thursday.

On the other hand the Congress government believed in giving power to the people. Therefore, our government had launched schemes like MNREGA, Right to Education and Food Security Bills. We wanted to empower poor people – the aam aadmi – who is deprived of the benefits of government schemes,” Gandhi said who was on two-day visit to his Parliamentary constituency.

He even raised questions about Adarsh Gram Yojana started by the NDA Government. “The MPs have been asked to adopt one village. Now what’s about other villages in that constituency. Is the MP not responsible to develop those villages too,” he asked.

To elaborate his point Gandhi said he has adopted Jagdishpur but his constituency has over 700 villages. “I think all these villages should be developed equally and each should be made a model village,” he said.

Downplaying US President Barack Obama’s praise for Modi’s efforts to shake up the “bureaucratic inertia” in India, the Congress Vice President said, “Praises are a different thing... people should know the truth.”

He said the bottom line of any governance is that people should get benefits. People may praise someone, but actually he is doing for the people. One should be evaluated by this parameter and not by the praises showered by others, he said. Rahul also laid the foundation stone of a community college in Munshiganj to be set up by Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust.

In the evening Rahul visited the Indira Gandhi eye hospital in lucknow and lauded the doctors and the administrators for taking the hospital to this height. ‘’ Recently AC Nelson in its survey had said that this hospital is one of the best in the country,’’ he said and congraluted the doctors and para-medical staffs for the achievement.

Gandhi revealed that he had done his eye-test in Amethi today and the report was good. ‘’ I promise to do my next eye-test in lucknow,’’ he announced. Gandhi stayed for about 40 minutes in the hospital and did a photo-session with all the staff. Besides he also went through the hospital and checked the new machines installed their.
