In a resolute endeavor to transform Uttar Pradesh’s roads into a pothole-free network, the Public Works Department has earmarked a substantial budget of Rs 275 crore this fiscal year, extending its scope to all districts across the state.
The tireless efforts of the Yogi-led government in Uttar Pradesh to enhance basic infrastructure and facilities have once again come to the forefront as these projects progress at a commendable pace, closely monitored by the state authorities.
“Our approach extends beyond road rehabilitation to encompass industrial development and the construction and restoration of fundamental structures,” PWD Minister Jitin Prasada said.
According to the latest data from the Public Works Department, Uttar Pradesh has achieved an exemplary 100 per cent success rate in meeting its pothole eradication targets for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Additionally, 93 per cent of the restoration projects have already been successfully completed, with ongoing efforts to address the remaining 7 per cent.
The target of repairing potholes on 1,00,867 roads, spanning various departments in the state, has been fully met. The data for the 2022-23 period shows that the state achieved a perfect score in this regard.
Similarly, the restoration works on 98,355 roads have reached the 93 per cent mark of completion, with the remaining 7 per cent of projects actively underway. The Public Works Department maintains a rigorous review and monitoring process for all ongoing initiatives.
Crucial departments contributing to this monumental effort include the National Highways (PWD), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI-West UP), NHAI (East UP), Mandi Parishad, Panchayati Raj, Irrigation Department, Rural Development, Urban Development, Sugarcane and Infrastructure and Industrial Development.
To ensure efficient progress, the state has set specific timelines for road rejuvenation projects. State roads are slated for completion within 4 years, major district roads within 4 years, other district roads within 5 years,  and rural roads within 8 years.
Within this systematic framework, various aspects have been meticulously addressed, encompassing road restoration solutions, patchwork, road beautification schemes, budget allocation, technical quality assessment, tender adjudication, and regular project monitoring.
“As Uttar Pradesh continues to strive for a robust and reliable road network, these concerted efforts underscore the commitment to better infrastructure and improved connectivity for the benefit of all residents,” Prasads said.
