Amid the farmers’ stir on Delhi borders and the Centre refusing to allow any political meeting on the issue, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is set to attend and address a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Saharanpur on Wednesday.
Priyanka was also scheduled to offer prayers at Shakumbhari Devi Temple at Saharanpur before attending the programme. On February 13, she will have parleys with farmers in Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar.
Earlier, the Congress had extended its full support to the three-hour ‘Chakka Jam’ call from agitating farmers on Saturday. The party along with other opposition parties have expressed concern against the new Farm laws.
Since November 26 last year, farmers have been protesting at different borders leading to the National Capital against the three newly enacted Farm laws - Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
