Congress general secretary in charge of UP east, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has rejected a proposal to replace UPCC chief Raj Babbar, saying he will continue till the Lok Sabha polls are over.

Sources in the party said that Priyanka also shot down a proposal for appointing another party chief to oversee east UP.

At a meeting convened to discuss Lok Sabha elections at Congress War Room at 15, Gurudwara Rakabganj Road in New Delhi on Thursday, Priyanka along with Congress general secretary in charge of UP west, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and UP Congress chief Raj Babbar sat down to thrash out strategies for the upcoming polls. After hectic deliberations, the meeting ended around Thursday midnight.

The discussion also veered around a possible replacement of Babbar, but it was set aside as little time was left for the general elections.

The idea of having two state chiefs for Uttar Pradesh was also brushed aside.

The sources said that Congress workers, during their discussions with Priyanka, had appreciated Babbar’s role as an influential campaigner but were critical of his ability to manage the organisation.
