Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Yogi Adityanath government over the killing of an Ayurvedic doctor in Sitapur, saying the security of the common man was in a poor state and the Uttar Pradesh government was not doing anything except indulging in false propaganda.
"In Sitapur, UP, a doctor was hacked to death by criminals who stormed his clinic," she said. "Such incidents are creating fear in the minds of the people of the state. The security system for the common people is in such a poor state and the government is not doing anything except indulging in false propaganda," the Congress general secretary said in a tweet in Hindi.
It may be mentioned that a doctor in Sitapur district was hacked to death in broad daylight by a person over an alleged property related dispute. The incident occurred in Mudrasan village in Hargaon police station area on Tuesday. The victim, Munendra Pratap Verma, was examining a patient at his clinic in Mudrasan when a man entered with a sharp-edged sword and started attacking him.
According to the police, the attacker, Achchey Lal Verma, first chopped off the doctor's hand and then inflicted several wounds on his head and neck. The doctor somehow opened the door of his clinic and called for help. By the time people reached the spot, the doctor had died due to excessive loss of blood. The incident took place in spite of the doctor's clinic being near a police picket. The police have arrested accused Achchey Lal Verma.
Superintendent of Police RP Singh said prima facie it appears that some issues over money to be transferred in a land deal was the reason for the murder.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has now decided to go offensive against the Yogi Adityanath government in their run-up to the assembly polls early next year.
The party has worked out a campaign theme for UP polls. Desperate to reclaim the lost ground, the Congress prepares to break the calm. To the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claim of ‘Sushashan and Vikas’ in UP, Congress plans a mega campaign titled ‘Kisne Bigada Uttar Pradesh (Who destroyed UP).
Congress officials here, on Wednesday, said the party planned to launch a mega campaign from August 9 to September 9, with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the forefront. August 9 is an auspicious historic day for the country when August Kranti or Quit India Movement was launched against the Britishers by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942.
The Congress leaders said during the month-long campaign, the party aimed to train around 70,000 workers on five points of Yogi government's failure, booth management, social media use and Congress ideology versus that of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh/ Bharatiya Janata Party. They said a booklet would be distributed among the workers during this programme which would highlight the failures of the government.
During this period, the party aims to build momentum by holding around 675 training camps across 400 plus assembly constituencies, with special focus on 100 seats.
In the run-up to elections, the Congress aims to stick to sole agenda of 'Plight of UP' over the years, with focus on Yogi government while also not sparing the previous Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati regimes too.
The sources said that the idea behind the campaign was to build a similar momentum as before the 2017 elections, when party had launched the massive farmers’ outreach programme ‘27 Saal, UP Behal’'. Highly placed sources said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be increasingly active in UP post August 15, once she returns from abroad. A training camp of around 100 master trainers from UP is presently under way at Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
