The ruling Samajwadi Party has condemned CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat for his statement against party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and termed the statement of left leader as despicable and unfortunate. “Prakash Karat has lost his mental balance and his statement against Mulayam Singh Yadav shows left parties’ growing frustration after party lost West Bengal elections. This seems to be a ploy to gain some headlines and therefore the left party leaders had issued statements against Mulayam Singh Yadav,” SP spokesperson and UP minister Rajendra Choudhury said in a statement here on Friday.
Choudhury said Mulayam Singh Yadav do not need a certificate from the left Party leaders about his sacrifice and fight against the communal forces. “ Yadav had always fought for the cause of the farmers, poor and the depressed class. He is called as ‘ Dharti putra’ because he has worked for the cause of the common man,” he said. The SP leader said that the party leaders have never ditched the country or any alliance. It questioned the left Party’s role during Freedom movement. “During emergency when all the socialist leaders were in jail, the left parties had supported the Congress. This shows the true character of left party leaders,” he said.
In an interview to a Malyalam newspaper Prakash Karat had accused Mulayam Singh Yadav of betraying the common causes and described him as a person who is very difficult to committed to his stand. The CPI(M) leader had blamed Yadav for the collapse of the People’s Front and said that his association with him was that of a “love-hate” relationship.
