Power engrs for phasing out 50 pc transformers

PNS

Uttar Pradesh Power Officers Association, an organisation of the engineers of UP Power Corporation Limited, has demanded that 50 per cent of the power distribution transformers presently in use be phased out as they have completed their lifecycle.

These transformers are of sub-standard quality and have been repaired several times.

The association said the replacement with new transformers would make power supply more efficient and cost effective.

President of the association, KB Ram, said the UPPCL created a record on June 10 by supplying 26,672 megawatt electricity to cope with the intense heatwave. In September 2022 , the UPPCL had supplied 26,589 MW of electricity.

The association also asked the UPPCL to review its transfer policy and refrain from mass transfer of engineers in power distribution divisions at the peak of the heatwave.

“The focus of the UPPCL and the engineers at this hour should be on ensuring uninterrupted power supply and transfer of engineers at this moment will adversely affect the power supply,” it said.

An engineer said after transfer it took some time for an engineer to adjust with the new environment.

The association also demanded vehicles for the power distribution divisions for quick response to power breakdown.
