Police, admn inaction aggravated situation

Circumstantial evidences, then sting operation by an electronic channel and action  taken against officer and now the statement of director general of police, all pointed that the state police as well as other administrative officers kept sitting idle and allowed the innocent people die in riots at Muzaffarnagar.

What is surprising and more alarming is that the above developments also pointed towards deadly nexus between the politicians and officials following which when  the government is well aware of the facts still just one officer has been suspended.

On his visit to Muzaffarnagar on Monday evening, the second after his tour to the trouble prone areas which was made just a day before the worst ever riots took place on September 7 last, DGP, Deo Raj Nagar admitted that there were lapses on the part of the police. He claimed that it was unfortunate that there was lack of policing in some riot-hit areas. ''The force should have exuded toughness and come out impartial in their actions while dealing with such incidents,'' he said while admitting that in some areas, there seems to be no presence of police even when they provided enough force as they already apprehended that any eventuality could happen in Muzaffarnagar.

The statement of Nagar showed his haplessness to tackle the situation when he claimed to be aware of all the situation and had also visited the district just a day before riots broke out. It also reminded the statement of Ambrish Chandra Sharma, former DGP in Akhilesh Yadav’s government who just after riots broke out in Faizabad last year also admitted that what he can do when his own officers refused to listen to him. Though at that time he not pointed towards politician but indirectly hinted that such officers had blessing of leaders.

Besides DGP Deo Raj Nagar’s statement, how the local police kept sitting hand-on-hand and let the rioters ruled the area also surfaced during a sting done by an electronic channel. In the sting most of the officers who were later taken to task showed admitting that how they had to sit idle following dictates of some politicians. Besides the sting, the move of the government also pointed towards growing influences of the politician which turned the situation volatile. In Muzaffarnagar, senior superintendent of police, Manzul Saini along with DM were shunted out just after they took action against the guilty in the case which is the main cause of worst ever riots, just as they belongs to a particular community. The sting operation also pointed that how the accused rounded up by the police had to set free on intervention of a senior leader. Earlier also during

Faizabad riots, similar action has been taken against than ADG (law and order) Jagmohan Yadav, just as he reportedly collected clippings of close circuit television installed in Faizabad which all pointed that how members of a particular community were involved in leading the communal violence which never witnessed such incident since 1992 after demolition of dispute structure.

In Muzaffarnagar, besides the statement of DGP as well as sting operation or action taken against the officers (line when SSP Muzaffarnagar Subash Dubey was suspended but SP Shamli, Abdul Hamid was spared when he was more responsible as Dubey was posted when the situation had already turned ugly), the circumstantial evidences also pointed that how the local cops were working under influence of a high profile leader of the ruling party. Out the total 49 causalities announced officially by the government none of the victims died of police bullet which clearly pointed that the cops had done nothing to control the rioters hence the government was forced to called the Army.

It may be also mentioned here that in earlier riots, like in Faizabad, Bareilly, Mathura, Gautambudhnagar (Noida) or during law and order problems like the one witnesses recently in Azamgarh etc, the cops had to opened fire to control the unruly mob resulting into several causalities in all such incident but in Muzaffarnagar, which so far claimed highest number of causalities in any riots reported in the State, no one was injured or died in exercise made by police to defuse the situation.
