Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to cover up their failures by using the current turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the Prime Minister and the BJP were indulging in “petty” politics after the Pulwama terror attack and the people felt that the country’s honour and security were not in safe hands.
Mayawati held the Prime Minister responsible for the rising terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the BJP government had failed to control the situation.
The BSP chief had called a meeting of party leaders and cadre to apprise them of the tie-up with the Samajwadi Party and also issue guidelines for establishing coordination with the cadre of the alliance partner at the grassroots level ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Mayawati said the Modi government was trying through all means to cover up its weaknesses and lapses after terror act continued in the country.
She also said that BJP was afraid of the BSP-SP alliance and to cover up its fears it was making all sorts of excuses and claims to divert the attention of the people.
“We are confident that the arrogant Modi government will be voted out in the coming Lok Sabha elections and the people of the state will play an important role in dislodging the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre,” she said.
“The country is worried about the terror attacks happening in Jammu and Kashmir for the last few days. It is not hidden from the people how the BJP and especially Prime Minister Modi are trying to hide their failures by highlighting what is happening there.” she said.
“At this critical juncture, when the country is facing hostility and needs firm leadership, Narendra Modi, instead of concentrating on the matters of national security, is more busy in serving his political ends by addressing the BJP workers and campaigning across the country. It is ridiculous and betrays the national sentiments,” Mayawati said.
In her address, Mayawati gave the ‘mantra’ for winning the Lok Sabha polls to the probable candidates, who attended the meeting.
Mayawati’s nephew Akash Anand was also present in the meeting.
The BSP chief asked the leaders to coordinate with the SP leaders in their areas and ensure the victory of the gathbandhan candidate, whether he or she was of BSP or SP.
Mayawati also paid tributes to the CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack and other incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. She appealed to the people to stand with the families of the CRPF personnel and extend all possible help to them as the government usually forgets the survivors of the martyrs after some time.
