A petty dispute led to a communal clash in Meerut in which several persons, including police officials, were injured on Friday. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area and cross cases from both the parties were also registered with the local police station.

Reports said that Anuj Tyagi, a resident of Bajaut hamlet of Partapur near Bijli Bamba bypass, along with his brother Rahul Tyagi, were working in the field when he was hit by a ‘gulli’ on Friday afternoon. The tragedy occurred as over two dozen youths, belonging to other community in neighbouring Suhail Garden area under Lisadigate police station, were playing ‘gulli and danda’ at the spot. The trouble started when Anuj abused the youths for disturbing them by playing the game regularly at the same spot. Just on this, the youths nabbed Anuj Tyagi and brutally assaulted him.

Finding himself hapless, Rahul called the police who reached the spot and tried to rescue Anuj but he was also attacked. In the meantime, the news of attack on Anuj reached his home and his relatives and villagers reached the spot leading to a communal clash between two groups.
