Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said that ‘patriotism is in my blood’ and no one can question about his love for the country.

“I am an Indian and I don’t need to take lessons from the BJP and the RSS. Those questioning me now, should explain where were they when the Congress and others fought for the coiuntry’s independence,” Rahul said when asked about his support to the JNU students and the protests by BJP. He was interacting with the media on the first day of his visit to his Parliamentary constituency of Amethi on Friday,

“My family members have sacrificed their lives for the country and patriotism is in my blood. The Modi government is trying to crush the people raising dissenting voice. A situation has come where attempts are being made to suppress all voices of dissent,” Gandhi asserted.

The Congress leader flayed the Centre for failing to check inflation. “Prices of pulses have gone up for the first time. The (BJP) government has failed to fulfill its promises. He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) should give Rs 15 lakh to each farmer or leave,” he demanded.

Rahul, who held meetings at Suchi and Vindaganj villages of Salon assembly segment in Amethi, was peeved over the ‘step-motherly treatment’ by the Centre on development projects in the region and charged the Modi government of withdrawing all projects brought by the Congress.

Exhorting  the locals to teach the BJP and other political parties a lesson in the coming Assembly polls in UP, Gandhi said that it was unfortunate that politics was being done on development issue. The Congress leader will be staying in Amethi till Saturday.
