The state BJP has condemned the statement of BSP chief Mayawati supporting the anti-national elements of JNU saying that she has failed to differentiate between the nationalists and anti-nationals.
“Mayawati is unable to differentiate between pro-national and anti national activities. The unfortunate incident at JNU cannot be condoned and termed pro-national by any stretch of imagination. The anti-India sloganeering and open support for terrorists at India’s premier university cannot be acceptable to any citizen of this country,” said BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak in a statement in lucknow on Monday.
Pathak said that Mayawati’s statement is clearly aimed at protecting anti-national JNU students union president Kanihaya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges after being seen shouting anti-India slogans during a meeting.
“It is questionable that how a political leader can play politics and favour anti- national elements setting aside the country’s interest,” Pathak said.
The BJP leader further claimed that the incident at the JNU is nothing but a conspiracy to turn this premier institution of the country into a hotbed for separatism and terrorism. “But it is unfortunate that the political parties and their leaders are falling prey to the conspiracy hatched by the anti-national elements,” he added.
