Party ready to contest in polls all alone says Raj Babbar and Ghulam Azad

To ally the confusion over a probable coalition in the mind of workers and leaders, both state Congress chief Raj Babbar and All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad stressed that the party was ready to contest the imminent polls on its own.

“Congress is prepared to fight the UP polls alone and there is no talk of any alliance with any party,” Azad said while addressing Congress workers in Meerut before leaving for Bijnore. He urged the workers to get into battle mode for the polls.

Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Azad said the demonetisation decision will ruin the country and its people and claimed that every person has been troubled by it.

“The Centre took the decision without any preparation and this will affect their performance in the UP polls. People who faced problems after demonetisation, will exact revenge from the BJP by not voting for them,” Azad said.

“The PM is not at all concerned about problems of the masses and he only cares for a handful of country’s people. Rahul Gandhi is continuously raising farmers’ issues and the effect of demonetisation,” he added. Azad was accompanied by party leaders Meem Afzal and Pl Punia.

Meanwhile in lucknow, state Congress chief Raj Babbar too made similar claims on his party fighting the Assembly polls on its own.

“Party workers are excited and full of energy to fight the elections alone. There will be no alliance and theCongress will contest all Assembly seats,” said Babbar.

Interestingly te statements of Azad and Babbar came at a time when these leaders are reported to be in regular touch with the SP brass for a `pre-poll alliance’.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav once again claimed that a SP-Congress alliance will help them to get 300 seats in the Assembly polls.

Replying to a question on alliance during a function at his official residence on Saturday, Yadav said that party chief Mulayam Singh will take the final call on alliance.

“I have already said that the SP is going to form the next government in UP and if we go into the polls in an alliance we will win more than 300 seats,” Yadav asserted.
