Decision of increasing Value Added Tax (VAT) by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav draws sharp criticism from Congress while the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janta Party burnt the effigy to protest the hike on Thursday.

``On one hand the dream of Achche Din promised by Narendra Modi has been already shattered due to continue rise in prices of eatables and other commodities including vegetables and on the other hand Samajwadi Party government had further put the burden of hike in VAT on the shoulders of the people”, alleged Nirmal Khatri, state president of the Congress.

``Samajwadi Party government never forwarded any benefit to the people when prices of petroleum products were increasing due to rise in international crude oil prices but now when the same has been reduced, the government passed on burden on the public”, asserted Khatri adding that it would be better if the State government would fix the VAT price so that the people would not burdened in the future in case of rise in crude oil prices. Khatri was reacting over VAT hike on petroleum products in the State, on Thursday afternoon.

Demanding to roll back the hike in VAT, Khatri further alleged that both BJP led National Democratic Alliance Government in the Centre and Samajwadi Party led government in the State had not fulfilled their poll promises and instead taxed the common man. He said that recently the central government hike the Service Tax which had all out impact on the citizen as now they had to pay extra for almost every services and now the State government increased VAT which would ultimately result into further hike in prices of all commodities.

Meanwhile the activists of the BJP Yuva Morcha had burnt the effigy of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav against the hike in VAT. The Party leaders raised slogan against Samajwadi Party government and accused that they were unnecessary passing on further burden on the shoulders of the public.
