Oppn demands Prez rule in UP

Biswajeet, PNS

With violence in Meerut reviving the ugly memories of Muzaffarnagar riots in which 49 people were killed, the opposition leaders have once again demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state for failure of Akhilesh Yadav to control law and order.

The RlD and BSP urged the Governor B.l. Joshi to impose President’s rule in the state, the BJP said the Samajwadi party government has lost the grip on administration. Rashtriya lok Dal (RlD) State president Munna Singh Chauhan blamed the SP government for the Meerut violence and alleged that UP government has no control over law and order.

"There is lawlessness in the state and it is a fit case for imposition of President’s rule in the state," Chauhan said in his statement. On the other hand BJP state president laxmikant Bajpai held the Akhilesh Yadav government responsible for violence in Meerut. 'The people are agitated over the one sided action by the police and the maha-panchayat was an outburst of the peoples' anger against government,'' he said.

The BJP leader alleged that while NSA has been invoked against two BJP MlAs Sangeet Singh Som and Suresh Rana the state police has not arrested BSP MP Kadir Rana and other Muslim political leaders involved in Muzaffarnagar riots. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) General Secretary and leader of the opposition in the state Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya said that the Meerut violence is a planned conspiracy of the ruling SP in nexus with the BJP.

''How can violence occur in the presence of such large number of security forces,'' he questioned. Congress spokesperson Dijendra Tripathi, however, blamed both the SP and the BJP for the Meerut violence and alleged that both the parties were trying to create communal disturbances for their own political benefit during the lok Sabha elections. He said the situation in western UP was explosive and the state government was doing nothing to control it.
