Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on Opposition parties in the Assembly on Thursday, charging them of politicising incidents of crime for narrow political gains and maligns the state government.
While replying to a debate, the CM said politically motivated charges like ‘administration is crippled in UP’ even as prompt police action led to crime cases being worked out, have been abound.
listing recent incidents of crime which hogged the headlines, the CM said that the murder of restaurant owner in lccknow, the incident of Manikpur, abduction of a professional model in NOIDA and several other cases were worked out and the guilty were brought to justice, yet the Opposition never lauded the police effort.
Referring to the recent murder of Uma Kant Maurya in Sultanpur, Yadav said, “It was an unfortunate incident where Opposition party leaders reached to console the bereaved family, but they also tried to draw political mileage as the dead body was not cremated for four days even as the state government recommended a CBI probe.’’ The CM reiterated that his government will take stern and prompt action in all matters related to law and order and crime against women.
“Opposition is so desperate that they are politicising incidents of murder. They have lost faith in the state machinery even the state government’s decision to order a CBI probe failed to pacify them,’’ said the CM. Without naming the BSP, Yadav said, “We know why they are scared of a CBI probe. Earlier during the UPA regime, we were at the receiving end of the CBI and now the agency is under the control of the BJP.’’
Training his guns at the Congress, the CM said, “The grand old party of India claims that it fought the battle of independence. Today it is a pale shadow of the past and has to hire public relation agencies for remaining politically relevant in UP.’’ Yadav referred to the hiring of poll strategist Prashant Kishore by the Congress for the 2017 UP Assembly polls.
Accusing the BJP of engineering communal clashes in the state, Yadav said, “First you created trouble over the issue of loud speaker at a temple in Moradabad. later in Agra, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader was killed and it was instantly given a communal colour. The BJP knows that the murder was a sequel to an old enmity and the warring parties had clashed earlier.’’
“The people have seen through your gameplan and would no longer be swayed by your false propaganda. The next thing the BJP will do is to engineer caste riots. The party accused us of discrimination on communal grounds on compensation to the victim of Agra. The incident at Dadri cannot be compared with Agra and both cases are different,’’ argued the CM.
Replying to the debate over grants of the Home and General Administration department, the Chief minister said, “Its a case of pot calling the kettle black as those who destroyed the general administration are now levelling allegations.’’
“During the BSP rule, police opened fire on farmers whose land was acquired for NOIDA-Agra Expressway. Farmers were set up in false cases and those are still being withdrawn,” said the CM. He also claimed that during the BSP rule, a special counter was set up for registration of FIRs against SP leaders leading to extortion by the police. “And these people are accusing us of deterioration in administration,” he wondered .
Claiming that the state government is working for toning up law and order and cases of crime are being worked out, the CM, “UP will be the first state to implement `Dial 100’ service for prompt police action and it will be launched in the first quarter of next fiscal from April 1.
Yadav claimed that despite canards spread by the Opposition, the state is progressing on the path of development. He said, “There would not have been any investment in UP had the law and order not been under control here. Besides, the world’s tallest temple is under construction at Vrindavan in Mathura. All this has been possible because of the robust law and order in UP.’’
After the debate, the Assembly passed the `UP Appropriation Bill, 2016, authorising the state government to draw from consolidated fund Rs 3.60 lakh crore—the budget for the 2016-17. Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey later adjourned the House for an indefinite period.
