Using Ram Manohar lohia’s 105th birth anniversary to invigorate youth, the Samajwadi Party leadership asked its youth brigade to propagate the message of good work being done by the Akhilesh Yadav Government and try to win over the hearts of people by their behaviour as suggested by the socialist ideologue. SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav and state president Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the Chief Minister of UP, stressed on the role of youth in the Assembly election.

“Try to win over the hearts of the people through your deeds. If you succeed, the SP will return to power in 2017,” both the leaders said. Yadav Senior called on the youth to adopt the path shown by socialist ideologue Ram Manohar lohia and serve the people. “It would be better if  the SP activists focus on serving the people through the welfare programmes launched by the Uttar Pradesh Government rather than raking up slogans in support of the party leaders,” he said, adding that sycophancy of the party’s rank and file would not work any more in the SP.

Making his first public appearances after his illness Yadav Sr. talked about his association with Dr lohia and how the socialist ideologue influenced the youth and asked them to work for the welfare of people. Yadav Sr. said Dr lohia not only strengthened democracy in India but also of Nepal. “A staunch critic of the Congress, Dr lohia always fought for the poor and the farmers and from time to time he gave advise to the government on economic issues,” the SP president said.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that his Government would very soon launch a mobile apps highlighting development schemes it had launched. “The mobile apps will bring the people closer to the schemes launched by the Government,” he added. Yadav Junior called upon the party cadre to be more disciplined and to control their language so that the common people did not feel insulted. “It will be your effort and dedication that will help the Samajwadi Party retain power in the state,” he added.

Yadav Jr. said that the state was galloping on the path of development. “Roads are being constructed and the Government is working overtime to improve the power scenario. We are setting up sub-stations and laying new distribution lines so that the power transmission is flawless,” he said. He also talked about the Government’s efforts on health and education fields.

“There are so many achievements. The leaders should spread the message of good governance across the state,” he said. Yadav Jr. also asked leaders to target the young generation as youth would form the largest vote chunk in 2017. “Apprise these young minds of the Government policies,” he said. Governor Ram Naik, who was present at the initial stage of the function, recalled the greatness of Dr lohia and said that the late leader was a great socialist leader.

SP Rajya Sabha MP and Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan also addressed the function. She said it was unfortunate that English was getting more prominence at the cost of regional languages. MP from Kannauj, Dimple Yadav, who is wife of Akhilesh Yadav, also participated in the function. However, senior SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan skipped the function. Earlier, the Governor released a book, ‘lohia aur unka Samajwad’, penned by senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav.
