In a shocking incident reported from Auraiya, an aged couple were brutally hacked to death by their son allegedly in connection with a property related dispute.

The local police along with senior officers reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. The police also recovered the axe with which the victims were murdered. The police have launched a hunt for the son who absconded after killing his parents.

Reports said that Shyamlal (75) of Purani Dibiyapur village under Auraiya Dibiyapur police station was sleeping in a hut with his wife Ramjanaki (70) on Thursday night. Both were murdered with an axe.

When their younger son Umakant’s wife reached there on Friday morning, she found the bodies of Shyam Lal and Ram Janaki lying in pools of blood on separate cots.

Umakant accused his elder brother of killing his parents. He claimed that for the last several months, his elder brother was fighting with his father over a piece of land as he wanted it to be transferred in his name. He said due to a dispute over the said land, his father had called police twice earlier and requested them to resolve the issue. The police, however, took no action claiming it to be a family issue.

Umakant said even on Thursday, some relatives had come to hold the panchayat but his elder brother slipped away. Later in the night, Shyamlal hacked his parents.

The police took the wife of the accused, Ramjanki, and his two daughters into custody.

Meanwhile, another dispute over a share in an insurance amount led to an exchange of blows among three brothers in the Paschim Tola area of Unnao, resulting in the death of one of them.

The three brothers on Thursday argued over Rs 2 lakh insurance money received by the elder brother following their mother’s death, the cops said on Friday.

The youngest of three brothers, identified as Ram Asrey (45), died in the incident, they added. Police said that based on complaints received from family members of the deceased, a case had been registered against the other two brothers in Purwa police station.

Purwa Circle Officer Deepak Singh, citing family members of the deceased, on Friday said that nine months ago Ramrani died in a road accident. After her death, the insurance amount of Rs 2 lakh was transferred to the account of Rajbahadur, the eldest son, a few days ago, the CO said. This led to an argument among the three on Thursday night. The argument led to a quarrel and finally resulted in an exchange of blows. The three brothers allegedly attacked each other with sticks, the officer said. Singh said Ram Asrey, the youngest of three brothers, was seriously injured and was first taken to a community health centre in Purwa, and then to the district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He added that based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased, a case had been registered against his brothers and efforts were on to arrest them.
