The Uttar Pradesh government has claimed that despite the novel coronavirus pandemic, the state fared exceedingly well in terms of exports.

From April 2020-2021 to March 2022, UP's exports increased from Rs.1,07,423.5 crore to Rs.1,40123.5 crore, an increase of about 30 per cent.  In this, the contribution of One District One Product (ODOP) scheme is about 72 per cent. Significantly, the exports have increased by 2,747 per cent in projected goods for special purposes.

The export share of the UP government’s flagship ODOP scheme, which was launched on the first Foundation Day of Uttar Pradesh in January 2018, is noteworthy in itself. This is also an indication that ODOP can become the growth engine of Uttar Pradesh's economy in the coming years. Not only this, ODOP will also play an important role in achieving the goal of one trillion dollar economy set by Uttar Pradesh government.

In view of this, common facility centres (CFCs) are being set up to provide facilities to all the stakeholders related to these products under ODOP scheme in various districts. Out of these five CFCs are ready functioning while some others will be ready soon. The CFCs of some districts are also to be launched soon.

Keeping in view the possibilities of ODOP scheme, the government has set a target of doubling its exports and employment generation in the next five years. It is to be recalled that during the first term of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, about 25 lakh people got employment/self-employment at the local level from the ODOP scheme. The Yogi government 2.0 aims to double the export as well as employment or self-employment opportunities in the next five years.

“The ODOP scheme has been a grand success story during the last five years. We are leaving no stone unturned to fulfill the resolve of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to augment the export of ODOP products as well as double the employment/self-employment opportunities in the next five years," said Additional Chief Secretary (MSME) Navneet Sehgal, and added, “In some districts other products have also been selected under ODOP scheme. The CFCs are to be set up in all such districts keeping in view the interest of all the stakeholders involved in ODOP scheme even as five of them are ready and some are in the process of approval.

He said that training was also started in a phased manner to ensure that the ODOP products remained competitive in price and quality in the national and international markets.
