The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued the notification for the bypoll to Hamirpur Assembly seat in Bundelkhand region, to be held on September 23.
The seat felt vacant after sitting BJP MLA Ashok Singh Chandel was disqualified from the House following his conviction in a murder case. The High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the murder of five members of a family.
September 4 is the last date for filing of nomination papers. Scrutiny of the papers would be done on September 5 and the last date of withdrawal of papers is September 7.
Polling for the seat would be held on September 23 and counting of votes would be taken up on September 27.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party announced Dr Manoj Prajapati as its candidate for the Hamirpur Assembly bypoll. Bahujan Samaj Party has announced Naushad Ali as its candidate for Hamirpur bypoll.
